Denver Food Rescue

Why We Run for Food Justice:

1 in 3 Denverites faces food insecurity. That’s more than 300,000 of our neighbors struggling to access consistent, nutritious meals. At Denver Food Rescue (DFR), we believe no one should have to choose between feeding their family and meeting other essential needs. That’s why our work is so critical.

Through our innovative food recovery model, we partner with grocery stores, food retailers, and community leaders to rescue fresh, surplus food that would otherwise go uneaten. This food is delivered to 21 No Cost Grocery Programs (NCGPs) led by and for the community. By focusing on fruits, vegetables, and high-nutrient perishables, we ensure that families in Denver have access to fresh, culturally relevant groceries.

In the last decade, with your support, we’ve:

Recovered over 4.7 million pounds of fresh food

Prevented 4,200 tons of CO₂ emissions

Saved Denver families over $15 million in grocery costs

But the need is greater than ever, and we can’t do this alone.

As an official charity partner, we’re inviting YOU to join our team and make a difference with your strides:

  • Support food access for Denver families – Every mile helps provide fresh, nutritious food to those who have been denied access.
  • Help combat climate change – Supporting food recovery reduces food waste and its negative environmental impact.
  • Build community – Join a movement that connects nutrition, sustainability, and social justice.

When you run for Denver Food Rescue, you’re turning your passion into action. We’re aiming for 25 runners, which will allow us to access a FREE Charity Partner Village tent and be eligible for Relay Cash Awards—both of which will amplify our mission and fund our important work.

Whether you’re running solo or as part of a team, your involvement is a vital part of building a more sustainable and just Denver.

Together, we can create a food system where no one is left behind. Let’s lace up, run with purpose, and make every mile count for food justice.
